Hydrophobic
Nubuck leather
The extraordinary leather used in the Guardian suit is the result of years
of in-depth research, testing and experimentation. Known as 'Hydrophobic
nubuck', the leather has a thickness from 1.5 - 1.7mm, and the same tear
and abrasion resistance as the leather used in Tiger Angel's Extreme race
suit series.
Non
Absorbent: The result of the
complex treatment and tanning process used is that the fibres of the
leathers are extremely water repellent. For the rider, this means that
even in the heaviest rain, the leathers will not become waterlogged.
If you left your Guardian suit in the bath over night it would absorb
less than 10% of its weight in water !!
Water
repellent: The Nubuck leather also has an 'active' DWR (durable
water repellency) coating on its surface which allows water to bead
on the outside of the suit, and also provides for a shorter drying time.
This coating stops what is known as 'wet out', where due to surface
saturation the wearer feels clammy and damp. The coating and condition
of the nubuck leather can be restored during the life of the suit due
to its simple and unique washing capabilities.
Breathable:
The
nubuck leather used in the Guardian suit is a great deal more breathable
than normal leather. This is essential when you consider that Gore-Tex®
fabrics are the most durably waterproof and breathable available in
the world, and to cover such fabric with a less breathable material
would render it useless. You will experience a dramatic increase in
comfort compared to conventional leathers.
